Project Management (PM)

Project Management is the discipline of planning and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. The primary challenge of Project Management is to achieve all of the projects goals and objectives while honoring the preconceived project constraints. Typical constraints are scope of work, time, and budget. The secondary challenge is to optimize the allocation and integration of inputs to meet the predefined objective.

Typically the Project Manager is hired by the owner, when the owner is soliciting an Architect. The PM is the resource for the owner from project inception to completion. The PM works with the Architect and Engineers to thoroughly develop the drawings, scope of work and construction budgets.

The PM then hires a Construction Manager, General Contractor or engages the trades directly on behalf of the owner.The PM plans, directs and coordinates all of the Architectural and Construction efforts, reporting directly to the owner.

The Project Management methodology is now commonly used in Canada to coordinate and protect all parties while administrating the owner’s wishes.
